Sustainability in Action:
Student Engagement that Grows Impact
Room: 105
Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Discover how CSU Northridge is transforming campus sustainability into an engaging, meaningful learning experience. This session will showcase innovative, hands-on programs that actively engage students in real-world projects—from urban forestry and food recovery to biodiversity, campus beautification, and sustainable food systems. Attendees will gain a thoughtful look at how these initiatives were developed, the impact they have, and the key lessons learned along the way.
Whether you’re looking to launch a new sustainability effort or enhance existing programs, this session offers actionable strategies and replicable models to inspire broad student involvement and deepen campus-community connections.
You should attend this session to learn informative ways to develop community-based learning projects that connect campus sustainability goals with student engagement and curriculum. As campuses are striving to increase retention and graduation rates without adding barriers of additional graduation requirements, finding creative ways to integrate and connect sustainability to general education classes is a great way to ensure all students are introduced to sustainability during their academic experience.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify strategies for engaging campus partners in hands-on sustainability projects.
- Explore a range of project ideas that connect academic curriculum to institutional sustainability goals.
- Apply best practices and lessons learned for developing community-based learning opportunities.
- Leverage campus grounds as a living lab to enhance student learning and engagement.
