Under the state’s Public Contract Code, state government is mandated to purchase products and services that achieve a degree of sustainability whenever possible. While there is no such mandate for municipalities or local governments, many are creating their own environmentally preferred purchasing ordinances or rules, even hiring sustainability managers to oversee the process.
