The
Business Case for Going Green – Room 101
The term
"green" has suddenly become all the rage - from products, to companies, to
cities. How does a consumer, employee, customer, business partner or a
local citizen really know what is meant when a company says they are
"green"? How can you measure "green"? Can "green" be used to make better
decisions? This session will help all stakeholders understand the concepts
of environmental performance, will help companies and consumers understand
how to find leadership examples and build attendees' understanding of the
meaning of "green".
Speakers: Mike Wallace, President,
Wallace Partners; David Abel (Moderator), Chairman & Managing Director,
VerdeXchange Institute.

Green Interior Design - and More! – Room 212
So you’re thinking of doing a remodel, and you want to go green.
Excellent choice! You benefit with healthier indoor air quality,
increased energy and water efficiency as well as helping local
businesses and the earth. Before you jump right in with your
remodel, let’s make sure the rest of the house is as healthy and
safe as your remodel will be. Charisse Bartholomew Dunn will discuss
the benefits of giving your house a “physical,” using state of the
art equipment. Once you know what it will take to make the whole
house healthy, you have a wonderful opportunity of including these
upgrades with the remodel, saving you money, time and making the
whole house eco-friendly and healthy.

Building Professional, Green Point Rater and Home Performance
Tester.
Mother’s Club Pasadena: a Holistic Team Approach to Sustainable
Design – Room 101

certified green LEED building? This seminar provides an in-depth
case study of the recently completed Gold LEED Child Development
Center for the Mother’s Club in Pasadena. After a brief overview of
the project, the panel discussion will bring together the core
client and design / developer teams to uncover how these groups
worked to transform an old industrial building into a community
facility for child development and parental training in the heart of
one of Pasadena’s traditionally underserved neighborhoods. In
addition, panelists will host an open house of the new facility at
Mother’s Club from 5 to 6 PM on June 7th at:

From Car Sharing to Street Cars to Street Design: Best Practices
in Sustainable Transportation – Room 105
Creating complete neighborhoods requires an understanding of the
relationship between buildings, streets, and other public spaces.
Sustainable street design integrates the street with the form and
function of surrounding land uses and provides for all travel. New
thinking about form-based street design combines building and open
space regulations with street type standards to create and enhance
complete neighborhoods. This talk explores recent developments in
design guidelines for walkable urban streets.
Speakers: Fred Silver, Vice President, CALSTART; Andrea
White, Director, Bikestation; Fred Dock, Director, Department of
Transportation, City of Pasadena; Julianna Delgado (Moderator), PhD,

Caltech Solar Project – Room 214
Caltech began investigating solar power options in 2006 as part
of its broader sustainability initiatives. EI Solutions, EIS, a
local Pasadena-based company and one of California’s leading
large-scale commercial integrators, was brought in to evaluate the
campus and present PV options. EIS worked closely with The City of
Pasadena and Pasadena Water and Power to help make this project
possible. However, determining the economic viability, as well as
the optimal size, design and system type can be a daunting thought
for businesses trying to evaluate solar. By using the Caltech
project as a case study, this seminar will help the audience better
understand the process that professional solar integrators apply to
provide the most optimized system.
Speaker: Andrew Beebe, President, El Solutions.

The Business Case for Going Green,Part II – Room 210
Market research data shows that consumers and businesses want to go
green. Merchants can no longer expect consumers to accept a lower
level of quality for a green product. The good news is that
environmentally minded buyers are willing to pay a little more. It
is imperative for all businesses to begin a journey towards
sustainability. Castle Press will discuss the methods that resulted
in meeting our customer’s green goals as well as the resulting cost
savings that went directly to the bottom line.
