Oakland Airport
Saving Big by Recycling
Airlines threw
out 9,000 tons of plastic in 2004 and enough newspapers and magazines to
bury a football field more than 230 feet deep.
Oakland
Airport
decided to do something about it, and decided to put all its waste up for
bid. Airlines' disposal bills have dropped by more than 50 percent. In
2006, the airport turned 76.1 tons of food waste into compost and recycled
222 tons of mixed materials. |
