Green California Summit:
California Leadership is More Important Than Ever
The annual Green California Summit comes to the Sacramento Convention Center on April 26-27, 2017. The conference comes at a time when California’s aggressive efforts to combat climate change and, at the same time, grow a vibrant economy have gained new significance. “We will set the stage. We’ll set the example,” the Governor has said. “And whatever Washington thinks they are doing, California is the future.”
The summit is developed with leadership from an advisory board composed of leaders from state and local government and the private sector. The board is co-chaired by Government Operations Secretary, Marybel Batjer and CalEPA Secretary, Matt Rodriquez.
Path-breaking legislator Fran Pavley will be the keynote speaker for the opening session of the Summit on the morning of April 26. Her most recent effort, SB 32, reaffirmed the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act and committed California to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.
The strategies, best practices and technologies that can support continued progress toward the state's green goals will be highlighted in education sessions on April 26-27, and Pre-Summit training on April 25.
More learning opportunities are available to all attendees in the Green Solutions Expo on April 26, featuring scores of green products and services, from vehicles to lighting. These exhibits offer attendees hands-on exposure to new technologies as well as opportunities to speak with staff from government agencies that design and administer green programs. Keynote and Expo registration is free to all attendees.
Pre-Summit seminars on April 25 will address vital topics. A daylong session will will offer a comprehensive view of current sustainability-related requirements in code, from changes to CALGreen and building efficiency standards to new access requirements for EV infrastructure and the latest standards for water conservation and re-use. Code experts from all relevant agencies will be on hand to highlight key issues, address implementation strategies and answer questions.
The Pre-Summit will also include a half-day Prop workshop organized in partnership with School Energy Coalition. This session will review the current status of project guidelines, funding, best practices in project implementation. It will also examine what will be expected in regard to project audits and accountability.
Another half-day session, “The Zero Emission Fleet,” will offer case histories that show how some of the best fleets in the country are addressing issues such as infrastructure, vehicle selection and funding. The session will be led by Tom Johnson, author of The 100 Best Fleets. Presenters include representatives from Alameda County, the #1 green fleet in America in 2016.
Concurrent Education Sessions
On April 26 and 27, dozens of concurrent education sessions will address a range of topics relating to green policy and practice, from zero net energy buildings and rainwater catchment to new guidelines for organic waste recycling, codes and standards, funding for energy and water projects and Zero Emission vehicles and infrastructure.
The Summit’s annual Leadership Awards will be presented during a welcome reception in the Expo on April 25. Established in cooperation with the Summit’s advisory board, the awards highlight and celebrate successful state and local government projects implemented in California during the previous year. All nominated projects must be publicly financed and executed, and must have provided a measurable benefit to the natural or human environment.
Registration for the Green Solutions Expo, keynote session and awards reception is free.
