Schools Summit Celebrates 10 Years

The tenth annual Green California Schools and Community Colleges Summit and Exposition comes to the Pasadena Convention Center on November 2-3, 2-16.
The Summit is the first and largest statewide green schools event.

The opening session on November 2 will include a keynote presentation by venture capitalist, philanthropist and Next 10 founder Noel Perry. Through an Expo with over 100 companies offering green products and services, dozens of educational sessions, and special events including a Leadership Awards reception, the Summit offers two days of total immersion in all aspects of green schools. Dozens of concurrent education sessions and Pre-Summit training will focus on topics including Prop 39 energy efficiency case histories, water conservation techniques, Zero Net Energy buildings, environmental literacy, biophilic design and funding sources.

2016 Green Schools and Community Colleges Summit & Expo

The 2016 Green California Schools Summit and Community Colleges Summit comes to the Pasadena Convention Center November 2-3. The first and largest statewide green schools event, the Summit was created to support green programs in the nation’s largest K-12 system and higher education systems.

Offering an Expo with over 100 companies offering green products and services, educational sessions, and special events including a Leadership Awards reception, the Summit is a unique annual opportunity for public and private sector stakeholders to share innovations in green policy, practice and technology.

The opening session on November 2 will include a keynote presentation by venture capitalist, philanthropist and Next 10 founder Noel Perry. State Architect Chet Widom, whose office approves all school construction plans, will speak in a keynote breakfast on November 3.

Dozens of concurrent education sessions at the Summit will highlight the best practices and strategies behind successful school programs. Topics will include Prop 39 energy efficiency case histories, water conservation techniques, Zero Net Energy buildings, environmental literacy, biophilic design and funding sources. Pre-Summit training on November 1 will include a day-long workshop on ZNE school retrofits and a workshop on campus water independence.

At a reception on November 2, the Summit’s annual Leadership Awards reception will recognize achievements in categories ranging from green building and energy efficiency to curriculum. The awards were established by the Summit’s Advisory Board to recognize individuals and districts on the leading edge of school sustainability.

Offering an Expo with over 100 companies offering green products and services, educational sessions, and special events including a Leadership Awards reception, the Summit is a unique annual opportunity for public and private sector stakeholders to share innovations in green policy, practice and technology.

The opening session on November 2 will include a keynote presentation by venture capitalist, philanthropist and Next 10 founder Noel Perry. Next 10 has emerged as a unique and trusted source of insights into the growth of the green economy in California and the benefits the state has received by taking climate change seriously. State Architect Chet Widom, whose office approves all school construction plans, will speak in a keynote breakfast on November 3.

Educational Opportunities
Green building and energy programs are enabling California districts to create healthy environments for students and to recover money for their general funds. Curriculum and student engagement efforts are helping students understand their role in preserving the state’s resources and opening the doors to career opportunities.

Dozens of concurrent education sessions at the Summit will highlight the best practices and strategies behind successful school programs. Topics will include Prop 39 energy efficiency case histories, water conservation techniques, Zero Net Energy buildings, environmental literacy, biophilic design and funding sources.

November 1 will feature in-depth Pre-Summit training workshops. New Buildings Institute will host a day-long technical workshop on Zero Net Energy school retrofits. This session is open to all Summit registrants at no cost. Another Pre-Summit session, How to Make Your Campus Water Independent, will cover cutting edge strategies for water management.

Leadership Awards
At a reception on November 2, the annual Leadership Awards reception will recognize achievements in categories ranging from green building and energy efficiency to curriculum. The awards were established by the Summit’s Advisory Board to honor individuals and school districts on the leading edge of school
sustainability.

The Advisory Board for the conference is chaired by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, State Architect Chet Widom, California Community College Deputy Chancellor Erik Skinner and Van Ton-Quinlivan, Vice Chancellor for Economic Development and Workforce Preparation.
