Green Buildings and
Campuses: Sustainable and Integrated Design
A green campus is more than
a collection of sustainably-built buildings. It is a community of
inter-related structures (and grounds) that not only house classrooms and
labs, but are teaching tools in themselves. This session covers the
planning, strategies and technologies that can contribute to a green
campus.
Day-to-Day Sustainability:
Green O & M
Operating a campus in a way
that conserves energy and water, and at the same time safeguards the
health of students and faculty, requires ongoing focus on monitoring
equipment and systems, choosing sustainable products and services and
keeping abreast of developments in subjects ranging from HVAC and pest
management to catering. This workshop will bring together the many aspects
of greening facilities management, including detailed case studies.
Greening Existing Facilities
Even if you don't have
funding for a new green building project, there is gold to be found in
existing buildings. Retrofitting for energy efficiency, water conservation
and equipment efficiency can capture dollars almost immediately. This
session will show you where the "low hanging fruit" can be found and how
to plan for and implement a thorough retro-commissioning project. Find out
about USGBC's new rating system, LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations
and Maintenance.
Making Connections: Developing Effective Green
Curriculum
Curriculum that is intended
to help students secure green jobs and succeed in them must lead directly
to the attainment of the skills that these jobs require. Developing such
curriculum can involve input from academia, industry and other
stakeholders. This session will outline how such materials are being
created by those who are effectively making these connections.
