Community colleges are a focal point for statewide efforts to create a green economy and workforce in California. The energy and interest surrounding the emerging green economy provide community colleges with unprecedented opportunities to enrich the communities they serve.

The Summit has been designed to respond to these trends by creating a forum for essential topics such as:

Attaining savings from building and running green campuses.
Development of green curriculum.
Using green programs for teaching and apprenticeships.
Campuses as models of sustainable practices for their community.
Helping students capture green employment opportunities.

This two-day event will take place from October 6-7, 2009 at the newly-renovated Pasadena Convention Center. Pre-Summit workshops will be held from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Monday, October 5th.

The educational program is intended to meet the diverse interests and purposes of those involved in participating and helping community colleges meet their purpose of Building Gateways to the Green Economy. The themes that will be addressed in presentations and workshops include:

Be a Partner in Learning - Meet at the Summit!

The Partners in Learning program is an opportunity for professional organizations that want to meet onsite at the Green California Community Colleges Summit, a dynamic atmosphere that is designed to inspire, inform and encourage interaction.

As a courtesy, Green Technology provides free meeting space for all Partners in Learning. There are also substantial registration discounts for group members that want to participate in Summit activities. Audio/visual equipment and catering are not provided, but can be arranged and purchased through the Pasadena Convention Center. In addition, discounted rates may be available at area hotels to accommodate out of town attendees.

Have Resources for Colleges?

Among the new features for the 2009 event is a Resource Center, where organizations that have resources for community colleges – grants, incentives, bond measure funds, partnership opportunities, etc. – can share information with attendees.
