New Seminar: Energy Code Navigation and Compliance
This three-hour course is designed for those involved with compliance and enforcement of the 2013 California Energy Code. The course will explore challenges and issues faced by inspectors, plans examiners, contractors and designers concerning construction, inspection, documentation and other implementation issues. The course will also include changes in the Energy Code that will go into effect July 1, 2014 and address some strategies for compliance. This class will address both residential and non-residential requirements of the 2013 California Energy Code and the effective use of the Energy Code, Compliance Manuals and Reference Appendices.

After completion of the course attendees should be able to:
• Understand how to navigate the California Energy Code and associated publications.
• Describe effective strategies for compliance with code requirements governing building envelope, lighting controls, and mechanical system efficiency.
• Understand plan review and inspection procedures, as they relate to the 2013 California Energy Code.
• Understand how new requirements found in the 2013 California Energy Code affect design, plan review and inspection.
• Describe the roles of designers, contractors, plans examiners, inspectors, HERS Raters, commissioning agents and those responsible for testing and verification.
• Discuss the expanded role of third party inspection and testing.

New Seminar: CALGreen, the Next Generation
This two-hour course is designed for those involved with compliance and enforcement of the 2013 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen). The course will address some potential solutions to issues that have arisen during the last code cycle and also include changes to CALGreen that went into effect January 1, 2014. Strategies for compliance will also be discussed. This class will address both residential and non-residential requirements of the 2013 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen).

After completion of the course attendees should be able to:

• Summarize the origins and evolution of the California Green Building Standards Code (CAL Green).
• Interpret California Green Building Standards Code requirements as they relate to design, construction, plan review, permit issuance and inspections.
• Discuss some of the issues that have created difficulties in the implementation of the requirements found in the California Green Building Standards Code.
• Discuss lessons learned and potential solutions for compliance.

About the Presenter

gregGreg Mahoney has been working in building code enforcement for over 25 years. He is currently serving as the Chief Building Official for the City of Davis. He is a member of the ICC Consensus Committee developing the ICC 1000 Standard for Commissioning.

He has developed curriculum and taught Building Inspection Technology and Green Building at Cosumnes River College for ten years. Greg is also an instructor for ICC, teaching courses on the IRC and CALGreen.

In addition to being a Certified Combination Inspector and Plans Examiner, he is a Certified Building Official, Certified Access Specialist, LEED Accredited Professional, BPI Building Analyst, and a Certified HERS Rater.



Continuing Education Credits

Both sessions offer continuing education credits from AIA (one CEU per hour, a total of five) Build it Green (one credit per hour) the Construction Management Association of America (one renewal point per hour) and ICC (0.1 per hour).

All registrants will receive a certificate of participation.
